Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold May Launch with IP68 Rating and Slimmer Hinge Design

Key Highlights:

  • Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold could become one of the most durable foldables on the market.

  • Expected to launch by late August 2025.

  • May feature a TSMC-built Tensor G5 processor.

The next generation of Google’s foldable smartphones appears to be on the horizon. Following the August 2024 debut of the Pixel 9 series, it’s highly likely that Google will unveil the Pixel 10 lineup around a similar timeframe. Among the most anticipated devices is the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the successor to last year’s premium foldable, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Enhanced Durability: IP68 Rating Expected

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold

According to a recent leak from Android Headlines, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold could be the first foldable smartphone to feature an IP68 rating, offering high-level resistance to both dust and water. For comparison, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are rumored to carry only IP48 protection, while the OPPO Find N5 features IPX8/IPX9 ratings.

To clarify:

  • The first digit in the IP68 rating (‘6’) indicates complete protection against dust.

  • The second digit (‘8’) means it can withstand water immersion up to 1-3 meters for 30 minutes.

This upgrade makes the Pixel 10 Pro Fold especially appealing to users who frequent dusty environments or need better protection from the elements.

A Sleeker, More Comfortable Hinge

In addition to durability improvements, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to feature a redesigned, slimmer hinge. Renders shared earlier by Android Headlines suggest that while the overall design remains familiar, the thinner hinge may reduce the device’s thickness and improve handling.

A slimmer hinge could also result in a less prominent crease on the inner display, enhancing the foldable experience—especially when viewing content at various angles.

Expected Launch Timeline and Specifications

The Pixel 10 series, including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, is reportedly scheduled for launch on August 20th, 2025, with U.S. sales beginning August 28th. The Pixel Watch 4 is also expected to debut at the same event.

Other anticipated features of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold include:

  • A 6.4-inch cover display (slightly larger than the 6.3-inch screen on its predecessor).

  • The Tensor G5 chipset, built on TSMC’s 3nm process, promising improved efficiency and performance.

With upgraded hardware, smarter design, and unmatched durability, the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is shaping up to be a standout contender in the foldable space this year.
