Apple’s iPhone 17 series, expected to debut this September, is shaping up to bring some of the most significant design changes we’ve seen in recent years—particularly around the rear camera module. A new leaked image offers the clearest look yet at what appears to be a dummy unit of the iPhone 17 Pro, showcasing a dramatic redesign that hints at Apple stepping outside its usual design comfort zone.

Shared by tipster Majin Bu on X (formerly Twitter), the image shows a sleek black iPhone featuring a prominent glass slab running across the top portion of the back panel. This houses the familiar triple-lens camera setup on the left and an LED flash on the right. The new design resembles the “camera bar” style seen in some Android devices and marks a departure from the more compact camera clusters of recent iPhones.
While leaked renders and case mock-ups have hinted at this new look, this image provides the most detailed preview yet. Though unconfirmed, it aligns with other leaks suggesting a consistent design theme across the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models. Notably, the iPhone 17 Pro appears to have softer, rounded edges—contrasting with the flat, sharp contours of its predecessor—and shows the Action Button and volume controls placed on the right. Visible antenna lines and a SIM tray further support its authenticity.
Interestingly, some fans have pointed out similarities to POCO’s design language—particularly the POCO M3, which features a similar full-width camera module. Whether Apple drew inspiration or not, this move is bound to stir conversation among enthusiasts and critics alike.
Beyond the camera, the iPhone 17 Pro may also introduce a livelier colour palette. Alongside the classic black, Apple is reportedly adding Sky Blue (reminiscent of the M4 MacBook Air), Titanium Green, and Titanium Purple to its Pro lineup—an unusual shift toward more vibrant hues for typically restrained Pro models.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to mirror this design, albeit in a larger form factor. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 may retain a vertical camera layout, keeping some visual distinction between models. Another new entrant, the iPhone 17 Air, has also been spotted with a similar triple-camera setup.
Apple is known for its incremental, calculated design evolution. But if this leak holds true, the iPhone 17 Pro could mark a more daring pivot. Whether fans embrace the change or call it derivative remains to be seen—but either way, Apple is clearly setting the stage for something new.
