Following the launch of the Nothing Phone (3) and Headphone (1), the company has confirmed its next major update—Nothing OS 4.0, built on Android 16. CEO Carl Pei revealed during the launch event that the update will arrive later this autumn, pointing to a rollout window between September and November.
At the end of the official launch video for the Phone (3), Pei clarified that the new flagship comes preloaded with Nothing OS 3.5, but users can expect an upgrade to OS 4.0 later this year. While the company hasn’t shared detailed features yet, it’s expected that the Phone (3) will be first in line to receive the update, followed by older models.

Although the full changelog remains under wraps, the update could potentially bring:
-
New AI-powered features
-
Enhanced Essential Space experiences
-
General performance and UI improvements
Given the past rollout pattern of Nothing OS 3.0 (beta in October 2023, stable in December 2023), it’s possible that beta testing for OS 4.0 on older models may begin soon before the stable release.
